AmeriCorps NCCC Falls in love with Oelwein

  By: Zach Condon   Since July 25th AmeriCorps NCCC team Oak 4 has been treated to incredible generosity of Oelwein while working with the city’s parks and recreation department.   The team has worked hard to complete the city’s list of projects. They have built roofs over four dugouts and shingled four more.

Their work with the Science Station has given them the opportunity to mentor and play with children aged four to twelve years old while encouraging an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

AmeriCorps NCCC team Oak 6 Helps Out in Joplin

  By Emily Fisher Oak 6 has been in Joplin, Missouri since August 1. The team set out for their original project in Port Washington, Wisconsin on July 21 where they were scheduled to complete a number of environmental projects including invasive species removal and kiosk building. Just after a week of work in Wisconsin, Oak 6 was notified that they would be leaving Port Washington to help out with the disaster relief efforts in Joplin Missouri.

Oak Seven Goes to Camp in Minnesota

  By: Oak Seven   An AmeriCorps team is working in Willow River, MN at Camp One Heartland. The team is working on a variety of projects while at the camp. Each week the team will see a new camp and undergo a different project.   The team spent the first week as camp counselors for camp with children infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

By: Gaby and Phil, Maple 4 Gale-force winds blasted through on July 11 and blew the Maple 4 dinosaurs, of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), to Marquette, Michigan. Since this team is not one to lie around and do nothing, it has agreed to work with the YMCA of Marquette County.

Oak One versus Honeysuckle in Munsee Woods

Oak One is assisting this organization with a variety of projects around the community with a focus on improving the environment. While staying in a cabin in Munsee Woods, the team is helping restore and conserve the former girl scouts camp.

Open House Celebrating Jeanne Crosby's 80th Birthday

  An open house will be held Sunday July 31st at the Vinton Lutheran Home Community room from 1-4pm.  Jeanne was born in Mt. Auburn and lived most of her life in Vinton. So whether you have known her as Chris and Kim's mom, or Ellie and Robyn's grandma, or just Grandma Jeanne come celebrate with us.
